Botox is well-known today for helping people to look younger but the toxin botulinum has actually been used for many years for its therapeutic qualities. There are many branches of medicine which have used it, including neurology and ophthalmology. In the 1990s, it created the great boom in the United States and Europe in aesthetic medicine, being used to eliminate expression wrinkles.
Botox or Vistabel can only be applied in clinics and consultancies which have the necessary pharmaceutical registration and then only by a doctor qualified to administer it.
It can be used to correct, eliminate and diminish expression zones in the forehead, the brow and crow's feet but not the wrinkles produced by age. Botox can also help in cases of hyperhidrosis which is excessive sweating.

Certain cases do have to be looked at carefully before treatment is recommended, such as in pregnant women or people who might suffer from some sort of neuromuscular condition. A doctor will be able to determine during the first consultation whether Botox can be given, taking into account your health history and after carrying out a physical examination.

So what are the advantages of the toxin botulinum?
*It can be applied at any time of the year and is not contradicted by exposure to the sun.
*It is a fast process, taking about 30 to 40 minutes.
*An anaesthetic is not needed and there is no risk of scaring.
*The results are almost immediate, with the best effects being appreciated between the third and fifth day and at its maximum after 15 days.
Botox is also highly effective for the treatment of excessive sweating.
Excessive sweating is a symptom of an imbalance in the body and is suffered by about one per cent of the population due to overproduction of the sweat glands in the feet, palms of the hands and armpits. It can have a huge impact on people's lives and is very uncomfortable for the sufferer.
Botox acts as an inhibiting agent, blocking the chemical signals to the nerves which control the sweating. The process consists of an application of Botox through injections, in small quantities and diluted. This is carried out in a single session and would need to be repeated every six to nine months. It is not a painful process and the results can be seen two days after the application.
